Mitchell Arts marks a new chapter in the Mitchell Gallery story: new horizons for the team synonymous with artistic integrity, experience and a gift for creating, sourcing and showing beautiful, contemporary fine art. The brain-child of Toni Ballard and Tom Mitchell sees the transformation from the famous gallery on Church Street, Warwick to hosting elegant art shows at prestigious venues.
Artist Tom originally opened the Mitchell Gallery in 2008, showcasing his own work, that of his son Andrew, and a handful of other local artists. Toni first exhibited her paintings there in 2009 and a year later she was running the gallery, becoming the manager in 2011. From this time onwards the gallery enjoyed great success – reputed to be one of the best in the West Midlands – with a loyal following. Working with charities such as SADS UK and Help 4 Heroes was important for Tom and Toni as well as a programme working with schools in the area to encourage the next generation of artists. The gallery amassed a coterie of other gifted artists; championing the emerging as well as internationally-renowned painters, sculptors and designers. With backgrounds in fine art; design; art history; sales; running events and teaching, their expertise is second to none, their friendliness and warmth a breath of fresh air. The preview shows were famously glamourous and attracted people from far and wide.
For a decade Mitchell Gallery flourished, becoming a hub for artists and collectors alike. In March 2018 Toni and Tom decided the time had come to close the gallery at 2 Church Street, Warwick and start something new. A project that would utilise their unique talents and a passion for art and yet afford them more time to paint in their golden years. The concept of staging quarterly art events in delightful surroundings was born; exhibiting their new works together with the family of cherished artists amassed over ten years and maintaining links with their loyal fan-base.
