Toni was born in the South East moving to Northern England at age 11 where she spent her formative years. She studied Fine Art at Leeds Art school and Falmouth School of Art. Since then she has lived in several different locations around the UK and in Canada.
Toni’s career has covered a myriad of creative disciplines and artistic endeavours, including: Interior design; theatre and display design; murals; book and CD illustration; retail at Liberty of London and as an Art tutor. Always an artist. Toni’s passion for oil painting on canvas was re-kindled by a visit to St. Ives in 2006, inspired by the intensity of light, colour of the sea and conversing with like-minded artists.
A body of artwork emerged after the Cornish visit and a desire to return to her creative roots. Toni’s inspiration is taken primarily from the landscape but also by stories of ancient myth & legend and a love of music. Certain artistic movements and artists have had an impact on her work, most notably the Pre-Raphaelites, the Symbolists., Kandsinsky and Heron. Each of Toni’s paintings weave layers of these components together, producing a sense of depth and intricacy which transport the beholder into a magical world. These evocative, allegorical, SoulsScapes reflect on the themes of Hope, Love, Sadness or Joy, each depicting her imaginative response to a place or a season in semi-abstract form.
The Soulscapes have sold internationally within both private and public sectors and she has undertaken a variety of commissions. Her paintings sold at the Mitchell Gallery long before she was asked to manage the business for Tom Mitchell in Warwick. With her artistry, career experiences and sociable nature Toni soon helped take Mitchell Gallery to a higher level. This was ideal situation, as she was also able to spend time painting in the studio space, becoming artist in residence as well as helping to inspire emerging artists find their creative pathway. Toni was able to forge links with artists and establish a loyal client-base, aspects which will prove to be favourable going into the future.
With the closure of the gallery at 2, Church Street in Warwick during Spring 2018, Toni and Tom have now established Mitchell Gallery Art Events. Hosting fabulous Art Exhibitions at prestigious venues. Leaving time to get back to the easel and other creative adventures.
