Rachel Jeffery was born in Cheshire, however after graduating from Falmouth School of Art in the late 90’s she decided to make her home in Cornwall, this is where she currently resides juggling painting and a hectic family life.
Her stunning and energetic work is in direct response and inspired by the landscape as well as the mercurial and fickle elements. As a member of the famous Newlyn School of Art, Rachel spent two years disciplining and honing her skills in the practise of Life Drawing, which inevitably impacted on her painting technique and style. A trip to New Zealand, land of some of the most spectacular scenery on our planet, proved to be and immense source of inspiration, resulting a collection of remarkable paintings.
Rachel amasses her drawings and photographs and then carefully begins the considered approach of constructing her abstracted images, resulting in the vibrant semi-abstract paintings seen here. She is attracted to and creates artworks that require the beholder to consider, imagine and weave a sense of understanding, finding a plethora of new meanings from the images as time evolves. Rachel’s use of resin creates a vibrant glossy finish with a glass-like quality that is both arresting, visually stunning and very durable. Her work has been exhibited throughout the UK, notably Cornwall, Bath, London and Manchester. We are now thrilled that she is exhibition her dramatic and unusual pictures with Mitchell Arts.
